"This is an entry level position," the ad states. "The ideal candidate will have a degree in journalism or related field, as well as an internship at a commercial television station ... Our staff reporters are one man band and beat our competitors to the stories that matter every day. We are not just about our broadcasts… we also place a premium on reporters who know how to produce compelling content for our website and our mobile platform. "

The Birmingham News, a 150,000-circulation daily newspaper in Alabama, offers year-round internships in sports reporting.

"Applicants should have completed substantial coursework in journalism, worked for campus or other publications and maintained a B average or above," the ad states. "The internships emphasize practical experience, and the intern is expected to perform as a beginning reporter."

Paid internships @ Alabama newspapers

Eight paid summer internships are available at various Alabama newspapers.

The internships, sponsored by the Alabama Press Association, run 10 weeks and pay $1,500. In the past, students have interned at the Auburn Villager, Birmingham Business Journal, Dadeville Record, Eclectic Observer, The Islander in Gulf Shores, The Citizen of East Alabama in Phenix City, Piedmont Journal and the Tallassee Tribune.

Get paid to cover college football bowl games

Kickoff-Time.com, a new website devoted to covering pro and college football, is seeking paid freelance journalists to cover the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, the GMAC Bowl and/or the Papajohns.com Bowl.

"We seek someone who can help our readers and fans get ready for the game by writing features on the teams involved and giving outside readers a sense of what is happening around town and sending, possibly posting, digital pictures of the teams, fans, etc. ," the job posting says.
