Paid radio news internship in Alaska

KSFK, NPR's affiliate radio station in southeast Alaska, is offering a paid summer internship.

The internship runs 2 to 3 months, pays $100 weekly stipend and provides free housing and airfare. It's a very hands-on experience.

"The successful applicant will work full-time as a reporter/producer and will also host local news, weather, community announcements and station breaks during NPR's morning edition," the ad states. "They will perform a variety of other station duties as assigned. The intern may cover a variety of topics of local, regional and statewide interest. There are plenty of opportunities for features and natural sound pieces."

To apply, e-mail a cover letter and resume by March 15th to Matt Lichtenstein and Joe Viechnicki via e-mail at matt@kfsk.org and joe@kfsk.org. Questions may also be directed to them.

Alaska newspaper seeks freelance writers

The Alaska Pioneer Press, a small monthly newspaper with a regularly-updated website, seeks freelance writers to cover Alaska's Mat-Su region.

Freelancers will cover local issues and activities/pastimes of importance to the Matanuska Valley and Susitna Valley regions between Houston and Trapper Creek, and also in the Healy area. Topics of interest include winter sports such as skiing, snow shoeing and snow machining.

"The pay per article is very low (sorry) but writing for the Alaska Pioneer Press is a great way to get some clips," the ad states. "We also welcome free column submissions for those who want to put a personal touch on events, school activities and club activities in their communities."
