Entry-level producer @ CBS Radio-Chicago

CBS Radio is seeking a part-time entry-level assistant producer for its Chicago affiliate station.

Duties include taking and editing audio from multiple sources including reporters, weather feeds and network audio feeds. Additionally, asst. producer will place phone calls to check on news stories, to use internet and other sources to follow up or gain insight for use in reporting news stories.

Free conference for ethnic media journalists

Ethnic media journalists can apply for a brief all-expenses paid program on urban environmental justice.

"The first part of the program, consisting of discussions with experts on environmental justice, plus field reporting and professional workshops, will take place in Los Angeles, beginning on the evening of April 30, 2009, and ending on May 6," the announcement states. "The Fellows will gather again in late July for sessions in Chicago."

Applicants must be employed by ethnic media news organizations or be independent journalists who regularly cover ethnic communities in the U.S. or racial justice issues. The program is sponsored by USC's Annenberg Institute for Justice and Journalism.

Paid internship to cover journalism convention

Attention: College journalists. How does a free week-long trip to Chicago to get a bunch of clips covering national and international newsmakers sound?

If you're interested, apply for a chance to help cover the American Society of Newspaper Editors' annual convention, which runs April 24-29 at Chicago's Fairmont Hotel.

Each year, ASNE invites juniors, seniors, and graduate journalism students to produce a daily newspaper for its convention, which it bills as "the largest gathering of U.S. editors." Students write and copy-edit stories, shoot photographs, design web pages, and produce an online edition of The ASNE Reporter. This year, 18 students will be selected to work side-by-side with professional newspaper journalists as reporters, copy editors, photographers, page designers, and online producers.

Transportation and housing will be provided for students from out of the area. A small stipend will also be provided.

Publications intern @ Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are offering a full-time extended paid internship in their Publications and Creative Services Department.  


"The successful candidate will perform various tasks associated with producing the Cubs official publications and will be instrumental in helping to maintain the digital asset archive during the baseball season," the ad states. "Additional responsibilities will include posting line-ups and farm report recaps from media notes on Vine Line Blogs, proofreading editorial pages for all publications using AP style, coordinating scorecard information for each series, to catalog, inventory, review and re-organize digital files and various other miscellaneous responsibilities."

Applicants should have background in print journalism and/or sports information and thorough knowledge of baseball. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred, as is a degree in journalism, new media or photography. Availability must be full-time, Monday – Friday.  Some weekends required.  Time frame will be early March to October 2009.

Paid internships @ Chicago Public Radio

Chicago Public Radio, a.k.a. WBEZ 91.5 FM, is offering four-month paid internships to a college upperclassmen and recent graduates. You'll receive mentoring, a $5,000 stipend and the opportunity to produce a news feature.

"The News Cast intern receives mentoring and training from editors, anchors, reporters, and news producers to help generate content for drive time local newscasts," the ad states. "Interns will have the opportunity to cover press conferences, write spot news scripts, and gather audio that will be broadcast during our morning and afternoon local newscasts. Interns will also be involved with researching, contacting news sources, fact checking, as well as posting news content to the Web site. As part of their final project, interns may have to opportunity to produce a news feature. "

Internships are available year-round. Application Deadlines are: December 5 for a Winter internship starting in January; January 30 for a Spring internship starting in March; and March 27, 2009 for a summer Internship starting in May or June.

Sports journalism intern @ Chicago TV station

WGN-TV, CW's affiliate in Chicago, seeks an intern to assist the sports producer and anchor with the evening sportscasts.

The intern will log games and use the web and wires to help provide pertinent information on breaking sports stories. The interns will learn to identify proper highlights, video, sound, etc… to use in our shows. Also, interns will have the opportunity to learn to edit on desktop editors. Occasionally, interns go out in the field to help with interviews.
