Online journalism interns @ Sun-Sentinel

The Sun-Sentinel, a 226,000-circulation daily newspaper in South Florida, seeks summer interns interested in online journalism.

Internships are 15-20 hours per week and based in the downtown Fort Lauderdale offices of the Sun-Sentinel. A stipend will be paid to students who complete the internship, and college credit is also available. Most interns are hired on as freelance contributors upon completion of their internship.

Interns will assist with Metromix South Florida, a website about entertainment, and the Sun-Sentinel's GetLocal webpage, which covers local communities.

Assignments will include: Managing online events calendar; shooting and editing photos; producing daily and weekly stories and articles; and attending story and budget meetings.

"Applicants should have an interest in online journalism, Web design or photography and must possess strong writing skills, an understanding of the Internet as a tool for sharing information, and should have some interest or experience in editorial photography," the ad states. "Interns will also be given the opportunity to develop their own enterprise feature to report and produce during the internship period."

Paid Fall internships @ Palm Beach Post

The Palm Beach Post, a 175,000-circulation daily newspaper in South Florida, is offering paid internships during the Fall 2009 semester.

One internship is for sportswriting and two internships are for photography. Pay is $475 per week.

The Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections will award three scholarships.
