$20,000 college broadcast journalism contest

Fox News Channel is offering a $20,000 broadcast journalism contest for college juniors and seniors. Moreover, the winners may receive a paid internship or entry-level job at Fox News.

The "Fox News Channel College Challenge" requires teams of two to four students (juniors and seniors only) to research, write, produce and submit an objective broadcast news story selected from a list of provided topics. A panel of journalists from Fox News Channel will judge the entries.

The winning team will share a scholarship of $10,000 and the team's school will receive a matching grant of $10,000. In addition, the winning team and one administrator will be invited to appear on Fox News Channel to talk about the winning entry and their experience.

Members of the winning team, who are juniors, will be eligible for an internship at Fox News Channel. Members of the winning team, who are seniors, will receive an entry-level-job interview at Fox News Channel.

Paid summer internships @ CNN, MSNBC, Fox News

Do you want a career in broadcast journalism but have no experience?

Hands-on summer 2009 internships with an experienced producer at major media networks or news production houses are available to college students through the Institute for Humane Studies.

Selected interns typically receive:
  • $2,000 stipend for a 10-week internship
  • Housing and travel allowance
  • Tuition and travel assistance to our weeklong workshop, Journalism and the Free Society
  • Free books, including academic works on economics, history, and philosophy
  • Mentoring with working industry professionals
  • Networking opportunities in major media centers: NYC, LA, and DC
In addition, arrangements can be made for internships as short as five weeks and up to twenty weeks at host firms. Current students can be considered for a part time internship that works around course loads. International students are also eligible for placement.

Previous students interned at:
  • CNN in Atlanta
  • WTOP in Washington, DC
  • ABC 20/20 in Manhattan
  • Fox News in Los Angeles
  • Hedrick Smith Productions in Washington, DC
  • MSNBC in New York City
"No previous experience is necessary, we're looking for articulate students passionate about liberty," according to the posting. "Students from all disciplines, including political science and economics are encouraged to apply."

The deadline for early decision is November 1. Application materials must be submitted through http://www.TheIHS.org/journalism and received no later than January 31.
