Paid journalism internship for South Americans

Recent university graduates from Chile and Nicaragua can apply for a one-year paid journalism internship in Spain.

The Pescanova-EFEverde International Internships will give two young journalists the opportunity to spend a year in Spain, splitting their time between EFEverde, a new global platform for environmental reporting operated by international news agency EFE, and the communications division of Pescanova, a Spanish seafood company. The interns will produce multimedia content on topics related to marine resources and sustainability.

Fellowship for Latin American journalists

A new fellowship enables journalists from Spanish-speaking countries to study free for a semester at the University of Toronto. The aim of the fellowship is to help the journalists "promote a strong and free media in their home country."

"With a focus on free expression, the Scotiabank/CJFE Journalism Fellowship at Massey College will help to promote awareness among people in Latin America and in Canada, of the many difficult challenges facing journalists today in Latin America and around the world," said a statement from the Canadian Journalists for Free Eexpression, which is sponsoring the fellowship.

Journalism fellowships in Latin America and Caribbean

Journalists and journalism school graduates who are between ages 21 and 35 and who wish to study in and report from Latin America or the Caribbean for one year can receive generous assistance through a journalism fellowship program.

Inter-American Press Association Scholarships provide $20,000 for Americans and Canadians to spend a year studying and reporting in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition. Latin American and Caribbean journalists are eligible and can spend one year at a U.S or Canadian journalism school.

The deadline to apply is December 31.
