Journalism scholarship for Calif. students

Coachella Valley, Calif. residents who are enrolled in college and interested in journalism can apply for a $1,000 scholarship.

To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a 3.0 G.P.A. and studying journalism, English composition, creative writing and script/film writing. Students enrolled in an MFA program are also eligible.


The deadline to apply for the Palm Springs Writer's Guild's Barbara Seranella Scholarship is June 1. The application is available at www.palmspringswritersguild.org.

Freelance entertainment writers @ Palm Springs paper

The Desert Sun in Palm Springs is looking for freelance writers to help launch a new local entertainment website aimed at 21-to-34 year olds.

"Writers will visit and generate 50-70 word descriptions of the best Coachella Valley bars, clubs, restaurants, and more, as assigned. There will also be opportunities to write longer feature stories about fun things in the area. This job is a part -time temporary position."
