Philadelphia City Paper seeks reporter

Philadelphia City Paper, an alternative weekly newspaper with a readership of nearly 500,000, has a rare opening for a staff writer. Salary is around $35,000.

"The ideal candidate is comfortable covering urban issues and can generate their own story ideas," the job posting says. "A staff writer usually produces one cover story a month (generally narrative-style, long-form reporting and writing) and one story for the news department each week. There are also opportunities to write for the paper's A&E, op-ed, and features sections."

The position is based in the paper's main office in Fort Washington, Montgomery County. Must have your own, reliable transportation. The Northeast Times, a weekly newspaper in Philadelphia, is seeking a reporter to join its news staff. You'll get to "tackle news, features and stories that examine key issues and facets of life in a changing Northeast Philadelphia." The position offers a competitive salary and benefits. The paper is owned by Philadelphia Media Holdings, which also owns the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.

Freelance for paper in Philly suburbs

The Trend, a local community newsweekly owned by the Philadelphia Inquirer's parent company and distributed throughout the Philadelphia suburbs, is seeking freelance writers all over its overage area for weekly news and feature stories.

Writers are paid $25 per story. Article topics include news in the county, hot topics, "man-on-the-street" speaking out forums, school news, student/teacher features, sports and much more. The paper covers Gloucester, Burlington and Camden counties in New Jersey, as well as Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania.
