The Roanoke Times, a 90,000-circulation daily newspaper in Virginia, seeks a reporter to cover area colleges.

"The higher education reporter leads our coverage of colleges and universities, with a special focus on Virginia Tech and Radford University," the ad states. "The beat includes covering breaking news and live events, writing quick features and in-depth centerpieces."

Applicants should have five years experience. Reporter will be based in newspaper's New River Valley bureau in Christiansburg, Virginia.

The Roanoke Times, a 90,000-circulation daily newspaper in Virginia, seeks a religion reporter.

Only a bachelor's degree and one year of experience or "equivalent" is required, so a master's degree student or undergrad with great internship experience may have a shot.

"This position is responsible for covering faith-related issues and news events in the community," the ad states. "The successful candidate will produce a mix of hard news and features; balancing daily, mid- and long-range coverage; including but certainly not limited to devising annual coverage of major religious holidays as well a weekly religion notes column. The flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends is important to this beat."

Paid photojournalism internship @ Roanoke Times

The Roanoke Times, a 95,000 circulation daily newspaper in Southwest Virginia, offers a paid photojournalism internship during the summer. Current students and recent graduates are eligible.

"This is an advanced internship where you will be working on daily assignments as well as stories and multimedia projects," the ad states. "Our interns are treated as staff photographers and are closely supervised and coached. You will cover a wide range of daily assignments and be strongly encouraged to produce one longer-term, in-depth story."

Paid internships run for 12 weeks from May to August The interns is supplied with Nikon digital gear, lighting equipment and digital recorders (for audio slideshows) and must be technically proficient in an electronic darkroom.
