U.K. TV station hiring young journalists & interns

Channel 4, a public television station in the United Kingdom, is offering paid 10-week internships and a year-long training program in television production and journalism.

The training program provides 12 months of on-the-job training in TV or new media production and pays £17,000. Deadline to apply is April 30.

Seven paid internships are also available, and it runs from August 9 to October 15. "Your background, age and qualifications aren't as important as your potential," the ad states. Applications open in May.

Hearst Newspapers, which owns newspapers in Seattle, San Francisco, Houston and other major cities, is offering an 18-month training program from recent grads and young journalists.

The Hearst Fellowship begins with  a two-week multimedia boot camp followed by two 9-month rotations at one of Hearst's top metro papers.

"Fellows can expect to write stories, shoot and produce their own videos, blog and use social media to raise awareness of their work," the ad states. "You don’t have to be perfect at all these skills when you enter the program, but you will be by the time you finish."

CBS's Philadelphia affiliate, KYW-TV, is offering a paid entry-level training program.

The News Apprenticeship Program "will expose candidates to the various disciplines within the Eyewitness News operation: broadcast journalism, multi-media content production, assignment desk, newscast writing/producing, promotion writing, and special projects," the ad states. "Apprentices will be working side by side with News Department professionals, learning their craft and gaining valuable experience and knowledge.
