Online journalist @ Sports Illustrated

SI.com, the website for Sports Illustrated magazine, seeks a full-time online producer. Position is based in Atlanta and involves night and weekend work.

Duties include copy editing original content and writing headlines for both stories and section fronts, as well as writing captions for photos. Managing sports sections involves selecting stories, writing teases for featured content, and assisting the site producer in coordinating news coverage on SI.com's front page. Writing original content is also possible, although not required.

Entry-level producer @ CBS Radio-Chicago

CBS Radio is seeking a part-time entry-level assistant producer for its Chicago affiliate station.

Duties include taking and editing audio from multiple sources including reporters, weather feeds and network audio feeds. Additionally, asst. producer will place phone calls to check on news stories, to use internet and other sources to follow up or gain insight for use in reporting news stories.

Applicants should have a college degree and hands-on internships or experience at a college radio station. Must be familiar with digital audio editing techniques.

Paid trainee program @ CNN

CNN offers a training program in producing and editing for master's degree students.

Applicants selected for the CNN Masters Fellowship Program will spend this summer working full-time at a CNN bureau, earning $1,000 per week. After graduation, they will be hired on a permanent basis (if all goes according to plan).

Opportunities are available to intern at Anderson Cooper 360 in New York, the Situation Room in Washington and the CNN Wire in Atlanta.

"As a part of our program, students will participate in several speaker series and social events specially designed to provide networking opportunities with top executives and exposure to diverse departments throughout the company," the ad states. "Students will be challenged to think creatively and develop necessary skills to succeed in the news industry."

Entry-level jobs @ NBC News

NBC News offers a 1-year training program for recent grads interested in learning newsgathering and production skills. The New York City Area positions begin in late Summer 2009 and pay $33,600 per year.

More than 75 percent of trainees are eventually hired on permanently. Note: this program focuses on news production, not on-air reporting.

"News Associates gain real-world experience honing research skills, developing news stories working in a news bureau, participating in field and studio show production, on the nightly news, a morning news program, cable news, or on a 'magazine' program," the ad states. "Each News Associate is assigned a mentor who is an experienced staff member. News Associates undergo an intense week long orientation filled with workshops, lunches with guest speakers and training."
