Paid multimedia internship in Montana

The Montana Stockgrowers Association is offering a paid multimedia internship in Helena, Montana, this summer. The 12-week internship pays $5,000.

The intern reporter will put together feature packages for the organization's website and help them develop their social media presence. Applicants should be juniors, seniors or graduate students with strong interviewing skills and experience in video production and editing. You'll need to be able to create multimedia stories including video, photographs and well-written articles.

Multimedia journalist @ Central Texas TV station

KXXV-TV and KRHD-TV, ABC's affiliate in Waco, Texas, seeks a journalist to report and shoot stories for both news and sports.

"Responsibilities include developing sports sources, contacts, and sports stories, photograph, edit, and report sports stories to industry standards, cover multiple stories daily, assist with commercial production as needed, and work as a one-person, self-contained news unit," the ad states. "The successful candidate will have general typing and computer skills, be detail oriented, have good spelling skills, and correctly use the English language. A degree in broadcast journalism is preferred and being bilingual in Spanish is helpful but not required."

Paid internships @ Las Vegas Sun

The Las Vegas Sun, a daily newspaper included as a section inside the 160,000-circulation Las Vegas Review-Journal, is offering paid internships to work on its website.

Internships run 3 to 9 months. As for pay, the announcement states: "You aren’t going to get rich. But you’ll definitely be able to get by."

Interns are needed in news, sports, video journalism and programming. "We’re looking for at least a couple of people to help us on the news side of lasvegassun.com, a journalist to help us with lasvegasweekly.com, a sports journalist to help us across all of our sites, and a video journalist to help us with our upcoming, new daily television show," the announcement states. "We’re also looking for programmers with an understanding of Django. And if you’re a designer with killer Flash or motion-graphics skills, we want you."

Applicants should have multimedia skills and a car.

Applicant should "have a great eye, creative editing skills and ... understands the value of pictures and natural sound. In addition to photojournalism, the ideal candidate must embrace the multiple platform environments we live in."

In addition, applicant should have "previous live truck experience, avid and the ability to gather stories with or without a reporter." At least two years experience is required.

ABC News seeks student freelancers

ABC News invites college journalists to submit video, pictures or stories about campus news to feature on its website and TV newscast.

Here are the details: "You must be a student attending an accredited college. Please keep in mind that all text stories must be between 800 -1100 words. Please make sure that your video is no longer than 3 minutes. If you're submitting a still photo, we require at least 531 x 411 pixels for horizontal images and at least 411 pixels in height for vertical images. Photos should be at least 72 dots per inch (DPI). All videos should include a specific sig out at the end: 'For ABC News On Campus, I'm [your name here.]'"

Beginning late February, New York magazine is offering a paid, part-time internship in video journalism.

The 400,000-circulation magazine covers the life, culture, politics and style of New York City. The intern will work 3 days per week and be paid $7.15 per hour.

"Candidates must be proficient in either Final Cut or Adobe Premiere, and of course other administrative office software," the ad states. "Responsibilities include editing and uploading footage, compiling clips, managing www.video.nymag.com and our YouTube site (http://www.youtube.com/user/NewYorkMagazine), and occasionally assisting on shoots. Get paid to travel around U.S. and blog

What a fun writing gig: Southwest Airlines is looking for someone to travel around the country for the next year and blog about it. The winner will be provided with airfare and hotel accommodations for each assignment along with a laptop, video camera and editing software. Video journalism awards contest

The 4th International Video Journalism Awards is seeking entries for non-fiction videos from video journalists.

"The awards try to cover all known fields of video journalism: films from TV stations and publishing companies and productions from an independent background are awarded with a total of 12,000 of prize money going to the separated categories 'independent and online' and 'TV production,'" according to an e-mail from Albert Beckmann of vjawards.com

The deadline for entering films is Oct. 15, 2008. The awards are produced by vjawards.com and the host is ZDF German Television in Mainz.
