Online journalist @ Sports Illustrated

SI.com, the website for Sports Illustrated magazine, seeks a full-time online producer. Position is based in Atlanta and involves night and weekend work.

Duties include copy editing original content and writing headlines for both stories and section fronts, as well as writing captions for photos. Managing sports sections involves selecting stories, writing teases for featured content, and assisting the site producer in coordinating news coverage on SI.com's front page. Writing original content is also possible, although not required.

Openings @ English-language newspaper in Syria

UG Group, Syria's largest publisher, is launching the country's only English-language newspaper and seeks to fill several editorial positions.

The Damascus-based newspaper seeks a staff writer(s), copy editor, web editor, coordinator and executive assistant. Good English skills are a must, but Arabic is not essential. Staff writers only need a "writing portfolio" while the web editor needs "HTML skills." For other positions, only 1-2 years experience is required. Pay range is $600 - $1,000 per month ("comfortable salary for Damascus," according to the ad).

"All positions will also have the opportunity to work on What's On, the country's only Events guide and magazine. "

Website manager at Herald News

The Herald News, a daily newspaper based in northern New Jersey, has a full-time opening for a Website Manager for its forthcoming website, MyHeraldNews.com.

The job is responsible for the overall success of the highly targeted Web presence of the Herald News, with an emphasis on day-to-day content programming, audience growth and the attainment of sales goals through a close partnership with the director of internet advertising.

The Site Manager's principal duties include establishing and monitoring business plans and objectives for the Herald News Online, being responsible for developing the direction and strategy for the daily Web presence and assuring quality and quantity of content, developing an online traffic generation strategy and monitoring its results, identifying traffic trends to communicate successes with newsroom and other departments and being the face of MyHeraldNews.com in the community.

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of content generation and content programming experience, some management experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Flash and other common Web languages and programs.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Web usability best practices.
  • Broadband content development for the web.

    Skills:
  • Ability to formulate business plan, including setting expense and revenue budgets.
  • Sound news judgment. Must have solid editing skills (grammar, spelling, and punctuation).
  • Command of Microsoft Office, Adobe product suite, Web-editing software.
