1-year paid internship @ NBC News in D.C.

NBC News is offering a one-year paid internship in its Washington, D.C. bureau.

"The goal is to give one graduating senior the opportunity to be mentored by seasoned NBC News staff members and truly experience a yearlong 'boot camp' in political journalism," the job posting states.

The "Tim Russert Fellowship" gives an entry-level journalist the opportunity to rotate throughout key areas of the bureau including assignments on “Meet the Press” and with the NBC News Political Unit. Responsibilities will include assisting on-air talent and producers, participating in news shoots, and story research.

NBC News plans to sponsor the Fellowship annually as a lasting tribute to Russert, a renowned political journalist who passed away last year.

Entry-level jobs @ NBC News

NBC News offers a 1-year training program for recent grads interested in learning newsgathering and production skills. The New York City Area positions begin in late Summer 2009 and pay $33,600 per year.

More than 75 percent of trainees are eventually hired on permanently. Note: this program focuses on news production, not on-air reporting.

"News Associates gain real-world experience honing research skills, developing news stories working in a news bureau, participating in field and studio show production, on the nightly news, a morning news program, cable news, or on a 'magazine' program," the ad states. "Each News Associate is assigned a mentor who is an experienced staff member. News Associates undergo an intense week long orientation filled with workshops, lunches with guest speakers and training."
