Entry-level critic @ popular UK music magazine

Entry-level positions in music journalism don't get much better than this. NME, a popular music magazine in the United Kingdom, is offering one young journalist the chance to become a music critic.
"NME.COM has teamed up with The Guardian to give one talented student a chance to join our team.

We are supporting the Student Critic Of The Year category at the Guardian Student Media Awards. And as well as £650 cash and a week's work experience at The Guardian, this year's winner will get a six-month internship as NME.COM's regional blogger.

The winning critic will oversee our regional music-related blogging - attending regional gigs, tours, and reviewing new music releases.

Writer @ British music magazine

Rock Sound, a London-based music magazine which bills itself as "the UK's leading alternative music magazine," seeks a staff writer who can double as reviews editor.

With a circulation of about 25,000, it's not in the same realm as an NME or Rolling Stone, so perhaps a young journalist has a shot at landing this gig. Applicants need to really know British music, though. The examples they give are knowing Slipknot from Sigur Ros, and Dalek from Dream Theatre.

By January 30, e-mail a resume and cover letter on why they should choose you to darren.taylor@rock-sound.net.
