Paid summer and spring journalism internships in DC

The National Journalism Center is seeking Spring and Summer interns, who will be placed at media outlets around the Washington. D.C. area, gaining real-world experience from professionals in the field.

Interns receive a $1,000 per month stipend for the duration of the 12-week program. Students can take their internships for credit, as well.

2008 placements included: Fox News, Fox Business Network, CNN, NBC News, BBC, Washington Times, Human Events, Washington Examiner , Politics magazine, Townhall , NewsMax magazine, Evans & Novak Political Report, Comcast Sports Net, DCSportsFan.com, American Spectator, Laura Ingraham Show, Sean Hannity Show, CNSnews.com, and Radio America shows, such as the G. Gordon Liddy Show, Michael Reagan Show, Dateline Washington, and Greg Knapp Experience – and many more.

Once a week, interns meet together for a training seminar to enhance their writing and reporting skills, their knowledge of journalism principles and fundamentals and learn more about the different topics, such as education and economics, that interns report on while at their placements. Interns are also exposed to speakers in the public policy or journalism fields, where lectures and question-answer seminars provide a chance for participants to learn from Washington insiders.

The Spring internship session runs from February 2 to April 24, 2009. The Summer internship session runs from May 17 to August 7, 2009.

To apply, candidates must submit an application (which can be found online), a cover letter, resume, 2-3 writing samples and 3 references. Please visit njc.yaf.org for application deadlines and more information about opportunities with The National Journalism Center.
