The Dallas Morning News, a 370,000-circulation daily newspaper in Texas, seeks a reporter to cover community news for print publications and online.

According to the ad, the reporter will "report concise, community-centric stories across multiple media platforms, including neighborsgo.com, The News’ social-media Web site, and neighborsgo, the weekly print newspaper published by The News. The ideal candidate will write daily stories and focus community coverage in a weekly print product as if it’s a direct conversation with readers. Excellent sourcing/reporting/blogging skills, strong news judgment and ability to aggregate relevant local news from a variety of sources to engage and connect with readers in a timely way are required. Video, photo shooting/editing skills are a plus."

Free webcast today: using LinkedIn for journalism

Columbia University's journalism school this afternoon is holding a free e-seminar on how journalists can use LinkedIn more effectively. The event will be webcast live from 3:30-4:30 p.m. EST.

The session will deal with variety of issues including how journalists can use LinkedIn in their day-to-day work, and how to use it as an effective job hunting tool. Speakers include Arik Hesseldahl, BusinessWeek senior technology writer; Jason Alba, author of I'm on LinkedIn, Now What? - A Guide to Getting the Most Out of LinkedIn and CEO of JibberJobber, a jobs search service; and Kay Luo, senior director of corporate communication of LinkedIn. The session will be moderated by Sree Sreenivasan, a new media professor at Columbia.

PBS seeks journalism students to blog
